Physical Intelligence announced its Pi API beta on October 13, 2026, offering developers managed infrastructure for adapting its robot foundation models. Teams upload demonstrations, fine-tune a model on company-managed compute, then run inference through a hosted gateway.
The company’s examples include Actor’s autonomous wheel loader transferring material into a dump truck and Almond’s dual-arm Axol robot deburring components used in its own assembly. Physical Intelligence says Almond reached that example after four days of iteration with the API. These are company-reported partner demonstrations, rather than independently measured benchmarks of general robotic competence.
The practical promise is a shorter development loop: gather examples, train, test on hardware and collect more data where the robot fails. Most showcased applications used cloud-hosted inference, and the company acknowledges connectivity challenges in some deployments. Beta applicants can describe what they want to build; the announcement does not establish universal availability or publish a standard price. Source: Physical Intelligence.
